Alarm Lady Bulletin #28
Beware of door to door sales representatives
We have become aware of a scam that we want you to know about.
College students are being recruited for a new reality show, selling alarm systems, door to door, for Firstline Security (one of several names) out of Utah. The student may even go as far as saying they are with General Alarm or one of the other well known security providers in our community and they say that they there to talk about upgrades to your existing security system.
These kids are dropped off in unfamiliar neighborhoods all over the country and told to go sell. They are instructed to tell people that they were not salespeople BUT they are going to provide a free home security system and that the city will charge them to "connect it". The students are to stand, facing the homeowner, with a GE logo in their hand. Steve Hill from GE has been quoted as saying "I can tell you unequivocally that we are not now, nor have we ever been a sponsor of such or any other programs for that company."
One student said "We would take away perfectly good systems out of people's houses and put in our crap."
The news story is available on the internet, at this link http://www.abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/7_on_your_side&id=5954507
Please be aware of door to door sales representatives, if something sounds too good to be true, it almost always is.
Should anyone come to your home and attempt to discuss your home security system, please BE CAUTIOUS! If someone says they are from General Alarm, please call General Alarm AT 925-8915 to verify their id entity with us. NEVER open your door to a stranger! (Note: A few years ago, on an early spring day, a homeowner in my neighborhood opened her door to a neatly dressed woman who was looking for work. While they were chatting, her accomplice went to the back door, helped herself in the house and gathered up some very nice items)
My 28 years in the security business tells me that with the spring weather we get an upsurge in criminal activities. PLEASE, use your alarm system and be on your guard. Test your alarm system and test your wireless panic button. If I or any of my terrific staff can be of assistance, please call us at 317-925-8915!
