Alarm Lady Bulletin #18

Since many of you who receive this bulletin are long-time customers (many of whom I have met personally), I thought I would share a personal story.

Our youngest daughter just moved into her first apartment. Of course, "Spy Mom", (as I am affectionately referred to by my kids) insisted on an alarm system being installed first thing. She went through the proper procedures to receive permission from the Management for the installation of her alarm system and hence, one of the top notch General Alarm technicians went to work to install a wireless alarm system with a cellular communicator (for 24-hour monitoring) since she, like most young people doesn't believe in old fashioned telephone lines.

1:10 p.m., September 7th (9 days after installation) The dispatch center in our LOCAL Indianapolis office received a front door entry alarm from our daughter's apartment.

A few minutes later, our daughter called from work to tell "Spy Mom" (with a rather indignant tone) that the Apartment Manager had contacted her to inform her that the maintenance person needed to access her apartment to fix something and didn't tell her they were coming so of course, they had activated her alarm system. Further, the Apartment Manager questioned her decision to have "such an elaborate alarm that can dispatch the police". She went on, "I thought you were getting one of those alarms that you can order off of the TV ads……..gee whiz!" To which our daughter replied, "Now why in the world would ANYONE get something so useless?"

I won't bore you with the rest of the details but here are a few points (my minister always says you have to make 3 points) that I hope you take away from this story.

1) If you have friends or family that live in an apartment, General Alarm can install a great wireless alarm system (no holes) with or without a cellular communicator AND it can be moved with them!
2) If an alarm system is not monitored by the terrific dispatchers at General Alarm…….."Why in the world would anyone buy something so useless"? Who would know when they need help?
3) An alarm system is a simple form of "controlled access". Now, the Apartment Management will NOT help themselves into someone's home without first authorizing access by the apartment tenant. So while we always believe that an alarm system is for LIFE SAFETY, it secondarily provides great property protection.

If I or any of the terrific staff at General Alarm can help you, your family, your friends, your business, your school, or your church with a security solution, we would consider it a privilege to do so.
