SECURITY TIPS FOR YOU FROM: The Alarm Lady lisap@genalarm.com
Hello!
Todays Security Tip is borrowed from an industry associate who is retired from the US Secret Service.
With holiday travel coming upon us, I thought the tip was REALLY informative and I hope youll find the information to your benefit.
Did you ever wonder what kind of information is embedded in those credit card like hotel room keys? Well
..here it is.
1. Customers (guest) name 2. Customers partial home address 3. Hotel room number 4. Check in date and check out date 5. Customers credit card number and expiration date!
When you turn your key in upon departure, all of YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION is there for any employee to access by simply scanning the card in the hotel scanner.
An employee can take a hand full of cards home and using a scanning device, access the information onto a laptop computer and go shopping at your expense.
Simply put, hotels do NOT erase these cards until an employee issues the card to the next hotel guest. It is usually kept in a drawer at the front desk with YOUR INFORMATION ON IT!!!!
The bottom line is, keep the cards or destroy them yourself. NEVER leave them behind in your room and never turn them in to the front desk. They will rarely charge you for the card.
